Host Institution : Gandhi Vidya Mandir (GVM)

GVM was the vision of Shri Kanhaiya Lalji Dugar, who later embraced sanyas and came to be known as Swami Shri Ramsharanji, founded in 1950 on a 1200 acre piece of land at the outskirts of Sardarshahr city which is one of the harshest and most backward terrains. This area is acutely prone to drought, heat in summer and cold waves, epidemics and other travesties by nature. GVM has striven to alleviate the acute backwardness through various permanent and adhoc programmes of education, culture, livelihood, health and hygiene, vocations, etc.

The institution is dedicated to the ‘nayee-taleem’ system of education, a dream of Mahatma Gandhi vested on Gandhian philosophy to improve upon all facts of human life, body, mind and soul at all levels, individual, social and natural with the discrimination for caste and creed. GVM boasts over 10,000 residential/non-residential students, from pre-primary to Ph.D level. Ayurved, Para-Medical, Life Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, IT and Management Engineering, Art, Science, etc are its multi-faculty colleges. The institution is not only working in the field of formal education but is sharing excellently in national literacy mission.

It was formally inaugurated by the first president of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad as a rural university.

After an arduous toil of over fifty years, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) which is one of the most prestigious institute of GVM was formally recognized as Deemed to be University of Government of India in 2002. Its facilitating teacher’s training from primary level to doctoral stage.

Apart from facilitating education, GVM is also entrusted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to run a Krishi Vigyan Kendra since 1993.


Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) or Farm Science Centre is a district level science-based institution which engaged in transfer of latest agriculture technologies to the end users for bridging the gap between production and productivity for sustainable agriculture.

KVK undertakes capacity buildings of farmers, farm women, rural youths and extension functionaries. It conducts on-farm trials for assessment, refinement and dissemination of proven technologies through front line demonstration and allied demonstrations in all the relevant fields of agriculture.

KVK functions on the mode of convergence as a collaborative participation of scientists, extension workers and the ultimate beneficiary i.e. the farmers. It is functioning as a knowledge resource centre of agriculture technologies to support entire farming community as well as voluntary sectors of the district to improve their economic status. It also focus on production and ensures to supply of good quality seeds, planting material, livestock and various bio-products to the farming community.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrate and conduct awareness programme on International Yoga day (21st June), World food day (16th October), World soil day celebration (5th December) during each year. Also conduct two preseasonal training programme, SAC meeting and other awareness programme for farmers, Farm women and Rural youth during every year.
